The Curd Nerd was founded in 2018 by Renee (aka Rey) D’Souza. Rey is a former cheesemonger and attended George Brown College for Introduction to Cheese. She plans to eventually complete her Professional Fromager Certificate at George Brown.
Rey started The Curd Nerd after temporarily leaving her job in the cheese industry to pursue her master’s degree in Environmental Studies. She wanted to keep her love of cheese alive and continue sharing it with the world. What started out as a mere blog evolved into a business that offers catered cheese boards and cheese tasting lessons.
Amid the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, Rey launched a new product: Curd Kits. These kits allow people to enjoy the experience of a restaurant-quality cheese board from home. Even after COVID-19 subsides, we are confident these kits will be enjoyed by many who wish to experience the wonderful world of cheese boards without breaking the bank!
The Curd Nerd team also includes Renee’s sister, Stephanie, and brother-in-law, Eric, who provide graphic design work. Chef Eric is also working towards his sommelier certification, and thus provides the beverage pairing suggestions in our Curd Kits.
